William Alexander, son of John & Sarah Harbison Porter, was born in Putnam County, March 31, 1846, and departed this life March 1, 1922, aged 75 years 11 months. He was reared in a family of 7 children. Two of these, Margaret Cooper and James T. Porter, having preceded him to the other shore. Three sisters, Minerva McCutchan, and Sarah Ratcliff of this vicinity and Nancy Ratcliff of Nampa, Idaho; and one brother, John W. Porter, yet remain. He was united in marriage to Martha A. Johnson on January 17, 1878. They resided on a farm in Putnam County until the silent reaper of death came August 23, 1911 and took from him his companion. To this union were born 4 children: one daughter, Mrs. Elsie Thompson; and the 3 sons, Charles M, Ora and Roy all of whom were with him when the end came. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church and was always ready to uphold what he believed to be right, and in his last moments gave a clear expression of a realization of his hopes. He leaves to mourn his loss 3 sisters and one brother, one daughter, 3 sons, 16 grandchildren and a great number of other relatives and friends.
